The Roadtrip to Yellowstone

So every once in awhile( and it seems like it has been a lot lately) KK will say, "Hey let's throw the Punkies in the car and drive for days at a time!!!!! Cause it will be fun!" and I ALWAYS say "HELL YEAH!!!" and the craziness begins!!!!!

KK is a excellent planner of trips.  Before we get on the road she has hotels, fun activities in every stop, where we are going to eat and has bought all sorts of things for the van to make the trip easier.  I pack, well over pack, bake, shop, do hair, get everyone ready, pack the car and I usually drive so KK can navigate cause well I might be a bit directionally challenged.

So our trip this month was to Yellowstone National Park.  I am going to tell you that it was probably the most beautiful place I have ever seen!!!! We took our time and took 3 days to get there.  We drove about 5 hours a day then stopped and did something fun for the kids.

The first day we stopped in Idaho and did a little bowling, golfing and raced some buggies!!!! Tater kicked all of our butts in bowling, Vannie got in her flow and became a expert golfer and Kim dragged another Mama and kicked some race car booty!!!!

As usual Princess loves all we try!

Tater also loves bowling! Can you see the excitement?

Tater kicked ass.....It's sad cause you know we used to be on a league!

Princess got her groove!

I didn't think it was ever going to end...it is called "MINI"golf right?

Tater just ran around the green getting every one's balls out of the hole!

Mama and Princess felt the need for speed! Watch out Ricky Bobby!

Giant pirate ship in the middle of all of this fun!

So the next day we were off to Montana!  And there was a carousel that Mama found and of course we had to go ride it! There was also an incident with a Giant Killer Bee or just a plain old bee.....whichever.... anyway it landed on KK and she completely lost it because it was trying to sting her so she flipped it at me and the Punkies(umm....yeah I know I'm allergic and we don't know if the kids are) but luckily it went out my window....Oh I forgot to mention I had pulled over for her to get out of the van and shake it off but instead she flung it at me......luckily it flew out my window and no one was stung but needless to tell all of you I laughed for DAYS afterwards at her  freak out and needless to say the Punkies were freaked out by bugs the whole rest of the trip!

Ummmm I ate junk the entire time and oh the fries were good!!!

Me and Ta on the carousel
There was also a kids museum that wasn't open but we played outside

Nemo again

So interested!

So we went from there to Cody WY! But first we drove through Yellowstone to get there.  I was in awe.  Luckily for me Kim drove that day and I got to just sit and be in AWE!!!! The Punkies were not impressed and barely looked up from their Ipads but it was worth every minute of fussing and whining!!!! It is truly one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen!!!

AND while we were in Cody I got to see a childhood that I haven't see in a very long time....too long. It's funny cause we both have lived in a lot of the same places over the years but just missing each other by months to a year in a lot of places!  I have to tell you I thought it might be weird or uncomfortable but Mary Etta will be a forever friend and no matter how long it is in between we will forever be connected and it will be like it was yesterday.  Her Crazies were Uphoff's through and through and it made my heart sing to see all the kids playing together!!!! We will definitely be making a yearly visit to see them and we have new pen pals!!!!
There's a heard of Elk in the background

It's smelly at the hot springs

Ta and Mama waiting for Old Faithful

Yeah they weren't happy........

And they were!!!

In Awe......

I love you Wyoming!!!

The Crazies with the Punkies!!!!

After our wonderful visit with the McCorkle's we spent the next day learning about Buffalo Bill Cody and the little town of Cody.  He was a trip!  We enjoyed a tour and there was a little museum.  I did laundry and prepared for our long drive home. The first day home was a great long drive through the rest of Yellowstone.  We saw a bunch of animals....and here I'm going to insert my PSA..........

People the WILD animals do not care that you are on vacation and that everything is suppose to be peachy keen!  DO NOT....Let me say it again DO NOT get out of your car and approach grizzly bears( yeah we saw it and there are signs all up and down the highway saying this, I'm not kidding), Giant Elk, Buffalo ( they are bigger than you) or any other WILD animal!!!!  It is crazy what we saw, Huge Buffalo Bulls just walked in the street and we sat on the road for quiet awhile while two young buffalo bucks played in the middle of the road and didn't let the cars go by!=)  It was amazing and hilarious and I will never forget it!
Just Hanging out by the side of the road

And another

There were two herds not far apart

The bigger one had to have at least 200 buffalo

They were just playin'

Then we just headed home.  Stopped in the same places we stopped on the way. Ran into some more fun things........
At a gas station

Tolee wanted to ride too!

And after 3 days we finally made it home!!!
Me kissing the wall when we got home!!!!
We are planning another trip next month to visit Aunt Dani!!!! But KK made the executive choice to fly!!! It was going to be another road trip but we are going to take TATER and the rest of the Punkies but TATER on a airplane!!!! Wish me luck and start praying now!!!!!!

Mom of the week.......

I gotta tell ya, I am very blessed to know some amazing Moms!  Some inspire me, some make me laugh, some mock me, some teach me and some just hold my hand.

With the world of Facebook, Twitter, and texting I get to spend my days glimpsing into the lives of all these different women and their families.  We are all very different, and that makes it even more fun.

I grew up in a very small town, and some of the people I hold nearest and dearest I have known at least since High School....some since grade school.......and there are a few I have known forever.  KK finds it weird that I keep in contact with these people and although I haven't actually seen them in 20 years I still consider them friends and most I consider family.  I them comforting.

Anyway, I want to tell you about a friend that I have had since High School....Maybe we knew each other in Junior High........ but anyway in the last few years we have reconnected and she has been a life line.  Someone that has inspired me, taught me, cried with me, MOCKS me, laughs with me, laughs at me, holds my hand and never judges.  She reminds me every day of what friends/sister are to each other.

She has two boys.  They are both hilarious and I love to get early morning texts of what G and M said or did that morning.  Or recently I got a pic........

This is a pic of her two boys stuck on top of their shed because she took the ladder away..... I am still laughing weeks later and I am super sure that they are not still up there but one sent the other to distract her while he climbed up there then spunky child #2 got up there and Mom took the ladder!!! Ha still funny!!!!

Then there was the text that I got that said she just sent her hubby a text that she loved him (Awwwww so sweet) and then her new landlord replied that he loved her too but thought that they should take it slow since they barely knew each other!!!! HA!!!!!!! Peed my pants a little over that one!!!!

So as you can see this gal is HILARIOUS and makes me laugh a lot.  She gets me and my sense of humor and allows me to say words like cunt and doesn't make that face or tell me how inappropriate it is to use the word cunt( I just said it twice in one long sentence). She understands when I say my Punkies are driving me crazy and I am thinking about running away and finding a Carnnie to settle down with and live in a trailer..........the list goes on and on and she just helps me plan!

So when she was telling me a bit about her one of her boys and what they were experiencing at school and what had happened in the past I was floored by what was going on and awed by the way she was handling things.  Not that I thought she wouldn't handle herself well but the degree of grace and respect for her child she has shown is amazing and inspiring...........

Her boy is a shy boy, who is extremely smart and gifted.  He draws, writes, reads, creates and plays chess.  She encourages him to use his gifts and they as a family enjoy all that pop culture has to offer! I love that about their family....that they are all geeks and are proud of it!  My family is full of geeks too but they act way to cool and won't admit it.  So I am totally jealous!

Anyway last year her boy was bullied....and I don't mean picked on here and there, I mean bullied.  Pushed to a point to where I am amazed at how well a boy at such a young age could bounce back and be willing to start fresh at a new school all while having a bright spirit and open heart.  It sounded bad and Dawn handled it always thinking of how each step was going to effect her son.

He started a new school this year.  Joined things!!!! This shy, sensitive boy joined groups/clubs!!! He was really excited about joining the band.  He wants to play the sax.  His band director is making him play the flute.  Now I as his mother, would have gone ape-shit crazy.  He had such a hard time last year, he was trying so hard and moving outside of his box and he gets another disappointment?!

Yeah, I would have been impossible.  But Dawn was patient, talked to the director, talked to her son and then talked to the director again.  All calmly and gracefully.  She let her son make his own choices, which he was amazingly grown up, gracious and truly beautiful in all that went into his deciding.

So my friend/sister Dawn once again has taught me another huge step in being a Mommy.  Allowing my kid to be himself and giving them the chance to do what they feel they need to do.  I would have been so caught up in emotions and they both sat and thought things through. Weighed different options and that little boy made man size choices that most men wouldn't have made!

So anyway my Dawny gets my Mom of the Week this week and I am grateful and lucky to have her in my life!!!!

Love you Dawny!

Going on a road trip!!!!!

So we travel a lot for a family with 4 small children and a dog.  We like to take the Punkies to see the world and quite frankly they love to go go go!

But preparing to go on a road trip can always be difficult.  I tend to over pack, not wanting to forget anything or not having something that we can't live without.  So this time I am packing light for everyone and planning on doing laundry.  The funny thing is that the Punkies are all freaking out because I told them they can only pack 4 outfits each for the 10 day trip.  Hee hee! You really would have thought I told them they were wearing rags and potato sacks!

The Princess modeling a possibility

Then there is the whole snack situation.  KK and the Punkies like to buy stuff when we stop for gas.....I like packing snacks that I have made..... So I try to compromise and they usually eat my snacks until the first stop then it's junk until we get home!=)

VS.

Then there is the whole, "What to do in the van for 8 hours of riding"? They have started to get into road games like looking for "slug bugs" and find ......... color car but that gets old fast so I let them bring their Ipads.  The problem with that has been it gets really loud.....REALLY LOUD!!! So I got them headphones...we will see how that works.

What's a Crazy Mommy to do?!

What do you do on long car rides with your kiddos?  Do you make snacks and bring them or buy them along the way as part of the experience? What do you do with them? Games? Music? Movies? Listen to books? Help a Mommy out!!!!!!!

New Sunnies!!!!!

What is it about new sunnies that makes a girl so happy?!

The thing about me is that I never buy a pair that is over $10! My baby boy loves to rip them off and throw them so I've stopped buying the $200 pairs! I know it was kinda ridiculous anyway right?!

So yesterday I got a package in the mail and my Bestie sent me a very cute new pair of cute sunnies......

I think they're kinda Sassy! No?!

Every Day Baubles!!!! My new obsession.........

So as most of you know I love me some shiny things!!!! But now that I am a Mommy I have to be a bit more selective in my baubles so I don't get caught on things or scratch the Punkies.

I have a great friend who about a year ago designed a ring and her and her partner made it and sent it to me.  It was love at first sight.  Since then I have requested a couple of stones and they have come through with gorgeous rings!
